Manuscript: something submitted in haste and returned at leisure...

Newsletters are a cost-effective way to present your company in its very best light and get your message out to clients and prospects. Remember, it takes many ‘touches’ for a client or prospect to think you are the real deal. This is a great way to reach them on a regular basis and to tacitly remind them where to turn when they need your product or service. Newsletters have too many benefits to list, but that won’t stop me from trying. You, no doubt, can think of others.
  • “Touch” your client or prospect on a regular basis without being intrusive.
  • Present upgrades in your company’s products or services.
  • Offer discounts to loyal customers.
  • Demonstrate your expertise with short articles on interesting topics in your industry.
  • Establish credibility.  You’re the real deal after all.
  • Inform your readers about company achievements, awards, and testimonials.
  • Educate your readers about your market segment, your services, and your products.
  • Engender loyalty.

The two most important things are to make sure you publish it on a reliable basis and make it interesting.  The goal is for your reader to look forward to your newsletter, not delete it the moment it arrives.  Miss a quarterly edition, and you spread seeds of doubt about your reliability.  Also, if it’s boring, you’ve wasted your time.  Add fun facts, quotable quotes, side bars, and points of trivia.  Also make sure you provide substantive, meaty information that presents you as the expert and educates your reader.  Case studies that show a problem you faced, how you approached the problem, the actions you settled upon, and the final (positive) results are powerful tool.  The more information people know about your company, the more likely they will be to use your services.  And make sure you have some graphics.  Large chunks of text tend to repel and not attract readers.

Take a look at the Newsletter on this site for one approach.  While it is casual in many respects, the reader should recognize that the author is an expert in his field.  At WritingHelp.com, newsletters are part of our everyday operations.  We know what works and what doesn’t.  If you are stumped for ideas, simply lack the time, or are uncomfortable publishing something for the world to view, give us a call.  We’ll make sure you look good.
